Lorain is a larger medium-sized city located in the state of Ohio. With a population of 63,707 people and 21 constituent neighborhoods, Lorain is the tenth largest community in Ohio.

 

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Lorain is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Lorain is a city of service providers, sales and office workers and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Lorain who work in office and administrative support (13.43%), sales jobs (9.11%) and food service (7.19%).

In Lorain, just 11.45% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%.

 

The per capita income in Lorain in 2010 was $18,495, which is lower middle income relative to Ohio and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $73,980 for a family of four. However, Lorain contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The greatest number of Lorain residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Lorain also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 25.24% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Lorain include German, Irish, Italian, Polish, Hungarian and English.
